The Fire of Anger

In every hearth
Burns the fire of anger —
The entire world
Is scorched by its flames;
Only at the feet
Of the Lord's humble
And loving devotee
Can one find refuge
From anger's blaze.

K.S.S., p. 131:2

A million karmas come
In the wake of anger;
All spiritual gain is lost
The moment anger and ego
Enter the heart.

K.S.S., p. 131:3

From all the ten directions
Comes billowing
The wildfire of anger;
Run to the cool, soothing
Company of the Saints
From this raging fire to escape.

K.S.S., p. 132:5

Abuse is the ember,
Anger the raging flames,
Slander the suffocating smoke;
One who keeps away from all three
Is a true devotee of God.

K.S.S., p. 132:6

Harsh words is the worst evil,
They hurt and scorch
The listener's entire being;
Cool as water,
A stream of nectar,
Are the words of a Saint.

K.S.S., p. 132:8

The spirit of forgiveness
Dissolves anger;
The devotee who is tolerant
And forgiving, O Kabir,
Cannot be assailed
By the forces of Kal.

K.S.S., p. 138:1

Piety resides
In a kind heart,
Sin resides
In the company of greed;
Where lives anger
Also lives Kal,
Where dwells forgiveness
Dwells the Lord.

K.S.S., p. 138:4

Sharp as arrows
Are the harsh words
Of the evil ones,
But the Saints
Are not affected by them:
The ocean is never hurt
By bolts of lightning.

K.S.S., p. 138:6
