The Seed of Devotion

Kabir, adore the Master,
Give up pleasure's insipid tastes;
You'll not obtain again and again
The chance of a human birth.

K.S.S., p. 31:1

The seed of devotion
Can never go to waste
In whatever frame it falls;
Gold does not lose its worth
Even if it drops
On a heap of dirt.

K.S.S., p. 31:2

No one will gain freedom
Without devotion,
Though a myriad other means
He were to adopt;
Who merges in Shabd,
That devotee alone
Will reach his Home.

K.S.S., p. 32:9

In the path of devotion
There are no garbs of pretence,
Nor the bias
Of caste and creed,
Of high and low;
Who adores Naam
Is the highest of all
And a rare soul.

K.S.S., p. 32:13

The rare jewel of devotion
Only then can you obtain
When the Master in his grace
Comes to your aid;
If great good fortune is yours,
You will be blessed
By the Master
With devotion and love.

K.S.S., p. 32:15

To all I firmly say,
Whether he be a pundit
Or a sheikh:
With unswerving devotion
Practice Shabd,
Another garb
You'll not be asked to put on.

K.S.S., p. 32:16

Never will sham devotion
Colour a man's soul
In love's radiant hue;
In the face of adversity
Such devotion will leave him
Like a snake's dead skin.

K.S.S., p. 32:17

That is true devotion
In which mind and heart
Stay still and absorbed.
With purity and truth
Play devotion's game
And discard
Both 'I' and 'you'.

K.S.S., p. 34:30

As water is dear to the fish,
Wealth to the greedy,
A child to the mother,
So is Naam dear
To the devotee's heart.

K.S.S., p. 34:32

Devotion to Naam
Is dear to me,
As fire is to the housewife;
Even if the entire town
Is burned to ashes,
She does not refrain
From begging for fire
From her neighbour again.

K.S.S., p. 34:35
