Guru Is God

Saints, sages and holy books have described the Master as God. The Master is that person who either comes directly from the region of the Supreme Being or who has reached that region and merged into the Lord. Though he lives in the world like any other human being, he is always in communion with the Lord within. Kabir, while praising the Master, repeatedly calls him God or greater than God. For man the Master is greater than God because it is through the Master that the Lord manifests himself to man; and the manifest form of the Lord is more important for the seeker than the unmanifested, which cannot be contacted, perceived or comprehended on his present physical level of consciousness.

Know that the Master is the Lord,
Be engrossed in the Shabd he gives;
Bow to the Master, adore him,
Contemplate on him without a break.

K.S.S., p. 1:8

The Master and God are one,
All else is a reflection;
Vanquish the 'I',
Adore the Master,
Only then will you find the Lord.

K.S.S., p. 3:29

Those who look upon the Master
As a man, O Kabir, are blind;
In this world they suffer misery,
In the next, Yama's noose.

K.S.S., p. 3:31

O Kabir, those men are indeed blind
Who think the Master is other than God.
If the Lord is angry
The Master is your asylum;
If the Master is displeased
There is no refuge
In the entire creation.

K.S.S., p. 3:33

Kabir, if God is annoyed
Take the refuge of the Master's feet;
But, asserts Kabir, if you earn
The Master's displeasure,
Not even God will come to your aid.

K.S.S., p. 4:46

In the three worlds, nine continents,
Greater than the Master there is none:
Even God cannot act
Against the Master's will;
What the Master wills,
That alone will happen.

K.S.S., p. 4:45

Master and God both stand
Face to face with me —
To whom should I pay my respects?
Hail to thee, my Master,
Who revealed the Lord to me!

K.S.S., p. 2:10

I sacrifice myself
At your feet, my Master,
A million times, again and again;
From man you made me divine —
And in doing so, took no time.

K.S.S., p. 2:11

Master is greater than the Lord,
Reflect and realize in your heart;
They who worship the Lord
Remain bound to this shore,
Who adore the Master
Cross over to the shores of bliss.

K.S.S., p. 3:34
