Intoxicants
In Kaliyug, Kal has sent
Tobacco, opium and wine
As his agents, to make man
Lose his head, forget devotion
And stay in Kal's confines.
K.S.S., p. 163:2
Opium and hemp,
Tobacco and wine,
Kabir, discard them all
If you crave a glimpse
Of the Lord.
K.S.S., p. 163:3
O wise ones, consider
The curse of wine;
You part with money
That with effort you earn,
In order to turn from man
Into beast.
K.S.S., p. 163:4
The drug-addicted
Will never, never
Gain the opposite shore;
Kabir firmly says:
O men, understand
And from such habits refrain.
K.S.S., p. 163:5
Kabir, men who take
Fish, hemp and drink,
Despite fasts and pilgrimages
And many a pious deed,
They'll suffer endless agony
In hell's bottomless pit.
A.G., p. 1377:233
Many arc the intoxicants
That afflict the world;
Few are aware of them.
Intoxication of wealth,
Of a keen mind,
Of physical beauty,
Of high caste
And a noble name,
Assails one and all.
K.S.S., p. 163:6
Intoxication of learning,
Of merits and virtues,
And that of power and position —
Only when one gives up
Such intoxications, can one enjoy
The intoxication
Of the divine Word.
K.S.S., p. 163:7
Kabir is intoxicated
With Naam —
Not with wine,
Nor with drugs;
He who drinks
From Naam's cup
Is the truly
Intoxicated one.
K.S.S., p. 163:8
