Controlling the Mind

I'll make my mind dead,
That the Invisible
In full view I perceive;
But if I try
To preserve my 'I'
May the fires of hell
Rain over my head.

K.G., p. 22:6

The mirror is within the heart,
Still you cannot see
The face of the Lord.
His face you will perceive
When your mind is free
From duality.

K.G., p. 22:8

Such a one my friend
I have made
Who has donned a robe
Of everlasting red.
If all the washermen
In the world
Were to try to wash
That colour away,
With all their scrubbing
Its hue would not fade.

K.G., p. 22:11

Thinner than water,
Finer than
A screen of smoke,
More lively and lithe
Than the restless wind;
Such a one
Kabir has made his friend.

K.G., p. 22:12

When my mind
Became thin and fine,
It made its home
In the sky;
It saw its origin
And attained peace;
It will not part
From its source again.

K.G., p. 22:14

Out of paper
The body's boat is made,
The river is in spate
With desire's violent waves;
How can I cast anchor
On the opposite shore,
With the oar, O Kabir,
In the charge
Of the five knaves?

K.G., p. 23:21

Bound with the five
One dons body's dress
Again and again;
Who enslaves the five
Will easily arrive
At the opposite shore.

K.S.S., p. 149:34

Mind, like a restless bird,
Will keep flying
In the wilderness
Of desires
And on the tree of passions
Will continue to perch —
So long as the hawk of love
Does not pounce from above.

K.S.S., p. 149:36

This stag without a head
Roams in all directions
And goes to graze
In wild forests;
Bind it with the knowledge
That your Master gave,
Hold it in the courtyard
Enclosed by the fence
Of love and truth.

K.S.S., p. 151:67

Kill your mind,
Its desires destroy.
Grind it, make it thin;
Then will the bride enjoy
The bliss of union divine,
Then will the love
Of her Beloved
Like a radiant lotus
On her forehead shine.

K.S.S., p. 150:50
