The devotee who loves the Lord, who longs not for worldly objects but only for union with Him, who overcomes his desires and cravings, conquers his ego and stills his mind, has been described by Kabir as a beautiful wife who is always loved and admired by her husband. The beauty of the devotee is not physical; it is the beauty of a pure and loving heart. Such a devotee attains God-realization, which destroys his lust, anger, ego and other base tendencies. He goes within, crosses the ocean of mind and maya and enjoys spiritual rapport with the Beloved.

Kabir, thus entreats the beautiful wife:
My kind Husband, beloved Lord,
Come fleeting like the wind to meet me —
Without Thee I can no longer live.

Will look at others
With adulterous eyes,
Never will her Beloved, her Husband,
Accept and honour her love.
