He Fills Every Vessel

A large section of mankind and most of the religions and scriptures maintain that God can be found in holy retreats in forests, caves and mountains, in temples, mosques and churches or in pilgrimage places, holy rivers and waters. But Saints clearly point out that the human body is the real temple of God and it is here that one can find Him. In these short poems Kabir says that God is present in every 'pot', within the vessel of the human body, and the seeker who goes within his own body and realizes Him earns the true benefit of the gift of human birth. This, however, can only be achieved by meeting a perfect Master and by learning from him the way to go within.

Kabir, musk abides in its navel,
But in search of its fragrance
From forest to forest
Wanders the musk deer;
Thus dwells the Lord
In every vessel,
But the world
Perceives Him not.

K.G., p. 64:1

The Lord dwells within your body;
Unaware, you roam in delusion
Like the musk deer that roves about
Sniffing every blade of grass.

K.G., p. 64:3

My Beloved resides
In the chamber of every heart,
No couch is empty of Him;
All praise to that heart
In which He has become manifest.

K.S.S., p. 106:5

The One for whom your search
In all corners of the world
Is within your own body;
The veil of illusion
Covers your eye:
You see Him not.

K.S.S., p. 106:3

He is neither less here
Nor more there;
To the brim He fills each pot.
Who realize Him as near,
Near indeed is He to them;
Who say He is remote,
For them no doubt He is far.

K.G., p. 64:5

I believed God to be far away
But He is within one and all;
Who does not realize his own self,
Though near, for him the Lord is far.

K.G., p. 64:6

Like the iris within the eye
Is the Lord within the body;
The ignorant ones know it not —
They search for Him far and wide.

K.G., p. 64:9

Like oil in a sesame seed,
Like spark in a flint stone,
Your Lord resides within you;
Wake up, if you will,
And realize Him.

K.S.S., p. 106:8

Hidden behind a blade of grass
Is the Lord,
On the peak of some mountain
Is He, I thought;
When I met the Master
I realized the truth
And within my own body
I found Him.

K.G., p. 64:7

When I met the Master
I became cool within,
The raging fever of avarice
And desires was allayed;
Night and day I float with joy
In the ocean of bliss
And within my own body,
O Kabir, God
Has revealed himself.

K.S.S., p. 109:21
