Selected Couplets

The doha, sakhi or salok, termed here 'couplet', is a two-line verse form popular with the medieval Saints of India. The doha is a complete poem in itself, each line divided into two parts, separated by a short pause. Thus, the doha is a quatrain in couplet form. In rendering these 'couplets' no rigid form has been adopted here and the number of lines varies according to the spirit and tone of the original.
