Which Is Greater?

Through a series of questions, Kabir conveys that the Lord, the One Supreme Being, is greater than Kal, the negative power, who created the physical, astral and causal worlds, because Kal was created by the Lord and is subordinate to Him. The source of all knowledge, God, is greater than all the knowledge that one can acquire in this world. Further, the devotee who goes within, crosses the regions of mind and maya and learns the truth about Kal is greater than Kal because such a devotee goes beyond the three worlds, overcomes the obstacles laid down by the negative power and enters the divine regions of pure spirit. In the end, Kabir says that the true lovers of the Lord — the Saints — are greater than al the places of pilgrimage because their company is truly elevating and purifying.

O Lord, if you feel concern
For this slave of yours,
Pray solve this problem for me:
Is the creator of the world greater
Or the One who created him?
Is knowledge greater, O Lord,
Or the source of all knowledge?
Is this mind greater
Or the place where mind
Finds lasting rest?
Is the lord of the three worlds greater,
Or the one who knows him?

Kabir is perplexed!
Are holy places greater,
Or Thy slaves and lovers, O Lord?
