Divine Water

The entire world is burning in the fire of desires and cravings, of attachments and hate, of ego and strife. Kabir says that the practice of Naam is the only means to eliminate mind's negative tendencies, which are the cause of all misery and turmoil. So long as this fire is not extinguished, man cannot obtain real peace of mind. Once the water of Name puts out the fire, man will attain a happiness and peace within himself that cannot be shaken by any external circumstances. In fact, he will become at peace with the world, he will radiate peace and will live in a state of inner and outward happiness and peace.

I was burning, I was aflame,
I found the water of God's Name.
The water of the Lord's grace
Removed all trace of fire
From my heart that was burning.

To vanquish their mind
Men run to forests,
They cannot find that water
Without the Lord's compassion.

I was burning, I was aflame,
I found the water of God's Name.

The fire that consumes
Gods, deities, men and all,
From that fire the water
Of God's Name saved this slave.

I was burning, I was aflame,
I found the water of God's Name.

The dreadful sea of the world
Has become the sea of peace;
I drink the water of his Name,
I drink, but it does not decrease.

I was burning, I was aflame,
I found the water of God's Name.

Says Kabir: Adore the Lord,
The water of whose Name
Has extinguished the flame
That was scorching my heart.
