The Music of Naam

Naam, the Lord's Name, is beyond the material, astral and causal worlds. It is beyond the reach of scriptures, intellect and reasoning, since it transcends the limited sphere of the mind. Kabir identifies the Name with the Word, Shabd or sound current, and points out that the Name of the Lord, which is invisible, intangible and ineffable, is present within everyone in the form of divine music.

Endlessly resounds
The music of the Lord's Name.
None has understood
His Name's real mystery;
Free of hunger, free of thirst,
Free of all attributes,
It is present in every vessel.

Endlessly resounds the Lord's Name.

Inaccessible to the scriptures,
Beyond the reach of reasoning,
It is free from piety and sin.

It resounds in every vessel.

Beyond intellect, beyond reflection,
It is beyond the limits
Of the tangible and the void.

It resounds in every vessel.

Unattainable through holy robes,
Unobtainable through begging,
Free of all forms and shapes,
It is beyond the reach of pretense and piety;
Far beyond the precincts of the three worlds,
Invisible and ineffable
Is that unique Truth, O Kabir,
Present within every vessel.

Endlessly resounding
Is the music of the Lord's Name.
