The Lord's Slave

The devotee who follows the path of surrender lays his entire being at the Lord's feet. Having crushed his mind, he has no desires left. He has become the Lord's slave and is happy in his will. He has no objection even if the Lord wants to sell him in the marketplace of the world; in other words, if the Lord wants the devotee to continue taking births in the world, he will be content to do so. Kabir has attained such a state of surrender and has become a salve of the Lord. He is happy in his Master's will. Like a good slave he asks for nothing from the Lord, not even freedom.

I am thy slave;
Sell me, O Lord,
Sell me, if such be thy will.

My body, mind and soul
I have laid at his feet.
The Lord brought Kabir to the market
And put him up for sale.
He himself is the vendor,
He himself the buyer, too.

I am thy slave; sell me,
Sell me if such be thy will.

When the Lord wishes to sell,
Who can save you?
If it be his wish to save you,
Who can sell?

Sell me, O Lord,
Sell me if such be thy will.

Sayeth Kabir: My body and mind
I have reduced to dust;
Never for a moment
Do I forget my beloved Lord.

I am thy slave; sell me,
Sell me if such be thy will.
