Every action bears fruit and becomes the cause of further action or karmas. The circle of cause and effect, karmas and their result, is endless. Kabir, speaking in paradoxes, says he has seen action destroying cause — meaning that devotion to the Lord destroys the chain of action and reaction. The River Ganges, he says, has reversed its direction and is returning to its source — the current of mind and soul, which flows in a downward and outward direction away from its center, has now reversed its flow and is going back towards its source in the eye center, the point between the two eyes. The earth has become one with the sky — that is, the attention of the mind has withdrawn from the physical body, 'the earth', and turning inwards has reached the spiritual regions within. The demon Rahu who, according to Indian mythology, causes a lunar eclipse by swallowing the moon, has now been swallowed himself — by the moon. Kabir means that mind, the demon which was swallowing the soul or moon, has been vanquished and become subordinate to the soul; it is now the soul that dominates or swallows the mind.

Wonder of wonders, O Kabir:
Through action cause came to an end.
Action has destroyed karmas — the cause;
In the raging fire of passions
The flower of devotion blossomed.
From the flower shot flames of knowledge
Which consumed the delusion
Of both sin and virtue.
The fragrance of devotion
Filled the air,
The stink of desire faded away.
Knowledge of my original descent dawned;
All thoughts of lineage were lost.
Concern for the true home developed,
Concern for all else departed,
And the illusions of the world vanished.
Ganga reversed its flow and sped upwards
To meet its source — the Mount of Meru;
Earth turned and became one with the sky.
Kabir, the Lord's humble slave,
Tells the truth: The moon
Turned back and swallowed Rahu.
