He Is Not Far

Kabir says that God is one; He is almighty and supreme. But man, craving worldly boons, worships deities, gods and goddesses, and pays homage to stone idols. Failing to realize that God is within everyone, he tries to find Him in mountains and rivers, in temples, mosques and churches. Kabir enjoins upon man to worship only the One Lord, and that too within his own body.

O unabashed fool, are you not ashamed?
Leaving the Lord, you go to others;
Why, to what purpose?
He whose Lord is the Mighty One,
It behooves him not
To run to others' houses.

The Lord pervades all:
He is ever with you,
He is not far.

At whose door
Even the goddess of plenty
Serves as a maid,
Tell me, O friend,
What boon can be scarce
In His court?

Whose glory one and all sing,
That mighty and powerful One
Is my Lord, my Husband —
The giver of all boons.

O Kabir, in this world
He alone is perfect
Who enshrines in his heart
None other than the Lord.
