To Meet the Most High

Kabir says that a true devotee does not bother with the distinctions of caste, colour and lineage, nor with the canons laid down in scriptures and holy books, nor with the decrees that the priests of different religions pronounce while interpreting their respective religious texts. The devotee turns his attention inwards, withdraws his mind to the eye center and, entering the spiritual regions, weaves the cloth of God-realization with the yarn of his soul. He goes into the region of Sunn and, even beyond that, into Sahaj, the highest region, the soul's original home. The devotee weaves the cloth of realization, of bliss, of divine love in these regions and then himself wears it — that is, he himself enjoys the bliss. Kabir asks the seeker to search for the Lord within his own body, for only through this search will he meet the Lord.

I have inverted my mind,
I disregard the distinctions
Of caste and lineage;
Now I weave in the regions
Of Sunn and Sahaj.

I am above doctrinal disputes;
Pundits and mullahs, both I disregard.

I weave; I myself weave,
Myself wear what I weave.
In the region where 'I' am not,
I sing the praises of my Lord.

What pundits and mullahs decree
I accept not, I have left it behind.

Through a pure and loving heart
See the Supreme Lord;
Search for Him within:
Only through such a search
Will you meet Kabir — the Most High.
