Assailed by Doubts

Saints come to the world to give the path of Shabd or Naam to seekers. But the Name that the Saints talk of cannot be spoken, written or read; it is ineffable. Even incarnations of gods did not know the path of Shabd and remained deluded in rituals and other forms of worship. Kabir counsels man to follow the path of Shabd — the only way to escape from the clutches of Yama, the negative power. However, men fail to listen to the Saints. Doubt is entrenched in their heart and leads them to take up different types of external observances and worship. Like gamblers they put their spiritual future at stake, throw the dice of their precious time and leave the world as spiritual paupers.

My path is unique,
It is beyond description.
Even incarnations are deluded;
Deluded is the entire world.

Ineffable, unique is my path.

Awake, O friend,
Awake if you will,
Or Yama will seize your soul
And carry it away.
You put no faith
In the path of Shabd,
Yet try to impart
True knowledge to others;
Yama is pleased — he has reserved
A place for you in his mansion.

My path is unique,
It is beyond description.

Doubt, the ruthless hunter,
Lurks within your body;
His arrow has pierced
The flawless diamond of your soul.

Ineffable, unique is my path.

Doubt resides within you,
It makes you throw the dice
Till you lose all your wealth;
It blindly attacks
Like a wounded beast,
Destroying one and all.

My path is unique,
It is beyond description.
