Part I: Chapter III / IX

Yoga of Spiritual Experience

This experience one gains by breaking through the three dimensional egg of gunas: satva, rajas and tamas, and by transcending the physical and mental states.

It comes with the understanding of the true nature of things, i.e., vivek or discrimination. Its merit is greater than that of the performance of rites and rituals, sacrifices and ceremonials, scriptural studies and chantings of psalms, practice of austerities, and the giving of alms and doing of other charitable deeds, all of which are perforce done on and concerned with the plane of the senses, and cannot take one beyond.
