From Jaimal Singh: Warmest greetings to Babu Sawan Singh, and to Babu Gulab Singh, Basant Singh, Nanak Singh, Narain Singh, Chanan Singh, and all the other Satsangis.

I received your letter and was happy to read the news. It was a well-written letter. You write that the money for the girders has been dispatched. It is good that this has been taken care of. It would be good if the girders were to arrive soon, because the work is now in full swing and only the girders are not yet here. The sawing of timber is continuing. Earlier also a letter was written to you about the need for money. It is difficult to carry on with the work without money in hand, so whichever way you can, please send money soon. If it cannot be done, then let me know: just drop me a line whether or not money will be coming.

I am also very worried about your illness. May Hazur Maharaj soon grant you health, and may He bless you very soon with His special Grace. My thoughts remain with you day and night. If you are unable to write a postcard in Gurumukhi yourself, you should ask Narain Singh to send me the news of your well-being. May the compassionate Hazur Himself be merciful to you. If you feel discomfort, please have Narain Singh do the writing – because these are His instructions. Swami Ji Maharaj Himself will shower His Mercy, and indeed is doing so. Look upon it all as His Grace.

You are urged repeatedly to continue doing Bhajan and Simran. Hazur Swami Ji is always with and within you. In pain, too, you should continue doing Bhajan, and not forget it, because pain and pleasure are both the same. In pleasure, the mind keeps wandering; but when it is in pain, it does not go anywhere. It does not then wish for any worldly, sensual, or wicked desires. At such a time it prays to the Lord only that it may get better. So please think about this: one does not gain anything in having physical health so long as surat, nirat and the higher mind do not devoutly love the Dhun of the Shabd. Were one to immerse oneself in the Dhun, such Love and devotion for the Satguru’s Holy Feet and form would arise in the mind that it would remove the suffering of the past twenty-one births. Only through such effort and through such Love and devotion day and night, can the karmas from millions of past lives be erased. And when … with the Satguru’s will and a tranquil mind, the disciple grows in Love and devotion for the Shabd Dhun and obtains its bliss, that Love and devotion will merge surat, nirat and the higher mind into the Shabd Dhun, and it will feel as if the Supreme Lord, is showering His Mercy upon us. However much pain the body might feel, even then consider it to be His Grace and Mercy. Always remember this: that you are to give your whole Love and affection to the sound of the Shabd Dhun, then Grace and Mercy will reach you in every way. So do not be perturbed.

Best regards from Bibi to you, her true brother. And warm greetings from everyone at the Dera. Please accept respectful greetings from the postman, Ganda Ram. Do not think yourself to be in pain; think that it is His Grace and Mercy. Reply by return post, even if it is a postcard.

(Baba Ji’s writing:) My son, this letter has been written in Urdu. Please read it carefully and consider everything to be His Grace and Mercy. This is the suffering that could lead to a rebirth. Therefore let it work itself out at this very point. Guru’s Grace is with you, so the suffering will soon come to an end – please treat all pain as pleasure.
