16 November 1901

Lots of Love from Jaimal Singh to my obedient son, Babu Sawan Singh. May the Grace and Mercy of the compassionate Anami Lord always be upon you, dear son.

Your letter was received and I was absolutely delighted to read its contents. I have sent a canister of ghee to you. Two Satsangis of the Twenty-Second Battery, Sunder Singh and Surain Singh, both of Company No. 5, agreed to take it with them. They are both reporting to their station in Rawalpindi on 20 November 1901. They will get off the train at 8 or 10 a.m., so send Chanan Singh at 6 or 7 a.m. on the 20th. They will call out his name after getting down; Chanan Singh should respond and meet them, get the canister of ghee, and take it to your residence. If they do not show up on that particular train, he should stay there that whole day – 20 November – but they will definitely come, because they have to report back to their battery that same day. They are in line nos. 22 and 24. Chanan Singh knows about this; send me a letter about it afterwards.

From your village, Mehmansinghwala, Bachint Singh has sent over 400 kilograms of flour by railway delivery. It has been ground very finely and with loving care, and is being used for the Sangat. I am very pleased with Bachint Singh.

My son, in your letter you have neither noted your locality, street, or house number, nor have you put a return address on the envelope. Many days have passed and you still have not sent your address. You mentioned that I have not written to you for a long time. That is because I was waiting to hear if you were permanently located in Rawalpindi. Since you will now stay there, so I have sent you a letter. You have not written about how Basant Singh is doing in his studies. Be sure to write about it. Also write and let me know whether you will receive the same allowance and extras at Rawalpindi that you were getting at Khairagali.

Bhajan and Simran is to be done every day, my son. Keep it in mind that all that exists is the Satguru’s. All occupations, material goods, every worldly thing, sons, daughters, relatives, the physical body, and the Love and Inner Yearning of surat and nirat, and the higher mind, the Shabd Dhun, one’s intelligence and intellect, and the hands, feet, tongue, nose, mouth and eyes, everything is the Satguru’s:

I have handed over all to the Satguru and work only to serve Him.

The sound of the Shabd Dhun that comes from our original home, from the wondrous Anami Lord, is the True Form of the Satguru. All that is happening in the world emanates from within His command. Always listen to the Shabd Dhun with Love and devotion. While continuing with your worldly duties, listen to It devotedly with the mind and the surat and nirat. Never let the mind become detached from It. Do not yearn for any worldly work. Nothing in the world is greater than the wealth of Naam. Why hanker after anything when you have already found the Greatest Home of all?

I will let you know about my visit when you write to let me know your address. The words in this letter were put down haphazardly, so please read them carefully. Greetings from Bibi to you, her true brother.

Warm regards to Chanan Singh, Basant Singh, and all the other Satsangis who might be there. Best wishes from Bibi, from the Sadhus and all the Dera residents, and from Bhag Singh to everyone and to you. I had a fever when I started this letter, but it is gone now.
