12 February 1901

Warmest greetings from Jaimal Singh to my obedient son, Babu Sawan Singh.

May the Grace and Mercy of the compassionate Anami Lord always be upon you.

Both Chanan Singh and Basant Singh arrived at the Dera on 5 February and left for your place on the 12th by the two o’clock train. They have been doing seva at the Dera. The roof of the upper-storey room will be ready in a week, but because of heavy rains the work on the meditation cell has not been started yet. Because of the wet ground, a bullock cart cannot be driven. We will begin the work when the ground dries up.

My son, please do your Bhajan and Simran every day, whenever you are free. Whether walking around, sitting, sleeping, or doing your work, keep the Love and devotion of the Inner Faculties of surat and nirat and the higher mind fixed in the Shabd Dhun. Whenever you find time to sit, do so to listen to the Shabd Dhun – your heart should remain attached to It all the time.

Best regards from Bibi to you, her dear brother. Also, best regards from all the Sadhus at the Dera and from each and every Satsangi to you, Babu Ji.

Warm regards to Babu Gajja Singh. Your letter has arrived and I was very happy to read it.

I have understood the whole situation. Certainly, the mind is just like you have written. However, keep doing Simran all the time, and slowly, gently, place your attention in the Sound of the Shabd. By doing this every day, the mind will slowly settle down.

Please give best greetings from Bibi, all the Sadhus, and from myself to Babu Gulab Singh, Narain Singh, and all the other Satsangis. You must continue with Bhajan and Simran every day; I would be pleased if you did it daily. A letter from your Baba Ji (grandfather) is enclosed in this letter, my son. You should read and answer it. Your letter has been received – it included an invoice – and I was happy to read it. You have written that you have sent ten pieces of clothing. Someone will collect the parcel from the railway station. I am glad that you sent the clothes because I was about to get some made. However, while only one piece of each item was needed, you have sent two of each. They have been received.

Keep your mind continuously in contemplation and fear of the Lord, and do your official work well. Keep alive within yourself the longing of the inner attentive faculties and the higher mind – this is as good as Bhajan.

Write to me when Chanan Singh and Basant Singh arrive there. Please have Basant Singh educated with Love and encouragement. He will find employment if he studies for two years. It is said that Bachint Singh also is now doing well. Your grandfather’s letter is enclosed in this letter; please take a look at it.

Best wishes from Bibi and all others to you. We will start working on the meditation cell soon.

Everyone is urged to do Bhajan and Simran every day. You should all attach your souls to the Sound of Shabd Dhun and savour its bliss by listening to It every day. Repeatedly listening to It will cleanse you. Day in and day out stop the mind from indulging in base thoughts because we will bear the consequences of whatever we do.

This is the reply to your last letter, which arrived on 12 February. It was in Urdu and was well written.
