9 December 1897

From Jaimal Singh to my obedient son, Babu Sawan Singh, and to Babu Hari Ram, Babu Mohan Singh, and to all the other Satsangis: warm regards.

May the Grace and Mercy of the compassionate Anami Lord always be upon all of you.

You are indeed my truly beloved ones. Wherever my Satguru Ji sends me, there you will always remain with me.

I received a money order for 50 rupees on 6 December and have used it for the expenses of the well. I also received a letter with the news of all three of you, and was delighted to read about your well-being and about your family matters.

About the well: sand was struck today. After reaching the water level, the excavators bored into the subsoil for nine feet more until they struck sand. They will now go down three or four feet further in the sand so that the overall water column is twelve to thirteen feet in depth. The work on the well is expected to be finished in ten to twelve days. A small pitcher of the first water was sent to Agra, where most likely it has been distributed to the whole Sangat. The well is now in place: it has about ten feet of water, which is enough. A day back, the well was run for half a day, with a waterskin, charas, pulled by oxen, but it did not run dry. A little sand came up, so the well was set right there. It was finished on 8 December, the 24th of Maghar. Its inauguration ceremony will be performed after you come.

What I wrote above about the well being finished in ten to twelve days was written three days ago – because I can’t find time even to write. Two or three lines one day, a couple of lines another day – that’s how this letter has been written. So consider this account, though short, to be substantial.

Bibi has made some spiced bean-dumplings, warian, for you, so let us know whether you will be coming to collect them or if we should send them by parcel. This account has been brief because of lack of time. Bibi’s best wishes to you, her dear brother. And please convey my best wishes to the elder Bibi Ji, the younger Bibi Ji, and to all the Satsangis. Bibi’s warm regards also to the elder Bibi, the younger Bibi, and to her two brothers.

Please convey this to everyone from me: listen to the Shabd Dhun every day, and always keep Simran in the mind. Consider it your good fortune that you are not to be born again. You will now go to Sach Khand from above Sahasdal Kanwal. Whatever words of advice the Satguru gives, always treasure them in your heart. Then the Satguru will do all your worldly and Spiritual Work – you are not to worry at all.

Due to lack of time, I have written this one letter for all of you. May His Grace and Mercy shower plentifully upon Chanan Singh and Basant Singh. Bibi’s best wishes to both of them. Grace and Mercy in abundance upon them from my side.
