Lots of Love from Jaimal Singh to my obedient son, Babu Sawan Singh Ji.

May the Grace and Mercy of the compassionate Lord always be upon you.

Your letter arrived on 7 June and I was extremely happy to read it. You mention that in two weeks’ time you will send me a letter in Gurumukhi. There is no need to do so, my son; you may continue to write to me in Urdu. Do not worry at all about the leg; it will neither become short nor remain useless. In a short while it will become normal again. Please eat plenty of fresh ghee. The affected bone will then toughen up so that you won’t even remember which part of the leg was broken.

No doubt there is some pain from being bedridden, but how can we appreciate suffering unless it shows its power? Naam is our support in pain and pleasure. In other words, the Lord sends us suffering in order to test us. When the mind does not waver in pleasure, but realises His will in both and welcomes them equally, then the Lord blesses us with Naam. The individual who learns to assimilate Naam, that is to say, does not get entangled in pride, pomp, or miracles, nor fall into any attachments, and believes absolutely that the Satguru alone is the Lord – in no way does his mind waver – for that individual the Satguru becomes everything. And when the Satguru sees that that person has become One with Him, He at once bestows His Grace and Mercy from Sach Khand by way of the Shabd Dhun. Whatever happens, my son, will be beneficial.

So keep on doing your Bhajan and Simran every day; that is, hold on to the Shabd Dhun, which is our Real Form. The body is a mere garment: neither can it last, nor can anyone keep it permanently. I am very pleased with you; you are here in fact with me.

Shabd swaroop satguru hain, jaa kaa aadi na ant; kaayaa maaheen dars hain, nihche maano sant.

The Shabd-incarnate Satguru is beyond birth or death; behold Him in the body – a fixed Truth, oh Saint.

Hazur is all-forgiving. Also, there is another point: whatever we do in keeping with the Satguru’s will is karmaless action. But the Satguru, the loving friend of the individual, must be perfect. Then the individual is forgiven the very moment the Satguru gives the instruction. For the rest, the Satguru is the Lord Himself: if He so wishes, He can burn up millions upon millions of sins with a single glance.

Bibi sends her best wishes to you, her dear brother, and Ram Ram to Hari Ram. I asked about him in the previous letter; a reply will be sent when you respond to it.
