The Lord’s Will – Hukam

Divine Dispensation, Divine Law and Divine Will are three different aspects of the same reality, namely, Bhana or the Lord’s Will (Hukam).

The Lord’s dispensation is the result of the Lord’s Will and so are happiness and pleasure. It is through this that His Law operates. The Divine Law is the materialised form of Divine Dispensation. It is the Shabd, Name or Word.

Oh Nanak, the Lord’s Name is the Law. It is explained by the Master.

He is blessed who knows the Law. The True Shabd is His distinguishing sign¹.
